Appearance

PB: Shad Moss.

Physical description: Izzy likes to make sure he looks good, but he's not what you'd call vain. He just makes sure that he's dressed neatly without looking like a tool. He keeps his hair neatly cropped, and when not in uniform, dresses to impress in what could be considered the current styles for the modern muggle, urban teenager. He'll wear just about every color as they all look good on him [with the exception of brown, of course]. He likes his bling, but keeps it subtle, wearing only a simple chain that was a gift from his grandmother, and a single stud in his left earlobe. Right now Izzy stands at a modest 5'7", but he's still growing and he doesn't have any hang-ups about his stature. He's incredibly active and thus has a lightly muscled frame that he doesn't mind showing off "for the ladies."

Personality

Likes: boldness, bright colors, flying, being the center of attention, boys, singing, sports of all kinds, being active, looking good, making a good impression, his grandmother, family, dancing, hanging out with friends, ritual magic, warm weather, kissing, Isaiah, sneakers, the night sky, pranks, getting away with stuff, house pride, parties, food, Halloween, bubblegum pop.

Dislikes: being alone, being ignored, liking boys, stupid people, bigots, scratchy sheets, getting caught doing something he shouldn't, feeling awkward, feeling left out, liking Isaiah, being mocked, losing, singing in front of people, studying, Latin, liver and onions, fakers, backstabbers, being afraid.

Quirks: Izzy likes to sing in the shower. He likes to sing, period, but in the shower is the only place he feels confident enough to do so. Plus the acoustics are great.

Secrets:
+ Izzy is far more interested in boys than he is girls, a fact that he tries desperately to hide, even from himself.

+ He cheats almost regularly on his Latin exams. It's not because he's stupid, but Latin's so boring and he'd much rather be hanging out with friends than studying a dead language.

+ For all his luck with the ladies, Izzy is very much a virgin. It's not a big deal to most people, but being a teenage boy, well, it is to him.

+ He sings very well but, ironically, doesn't like performing in front of people. He considers it too personal to share with others.

+ Likes to pretend he's listening to hip-hop when he's really listening to the Jonas Brothers/High School Musical/Disney!pop.

+ Perhaps Izzy's biggest secret is his huge, EPIC crush on Isaiah Belain. It's the main reason why Izzy acts like he can't stand the other boy.

Strengths: charming girls, astronomy, wandwork, good with his hands, makes friends easily, athletic, reasonably smart, ritual magic, being someone he's not.
Weaknesses: self doubt, sore loser, Isaiah, too critical, long hair, tries to hard to impress, gives in to peer pressure a little too easily, short-tempered.

Detailed Personality:
To everyone who thinks they know Israel Pope, he is the quintessential confident, popular jock. He's easy to make friends with, hangs with the cools kids, and usually has a pretty girl - or two - hanging on his arm. He's more likely to be found tossing a football around or playing a pick-up game of quodpot rather than studying. That isn't to say he's lazy or stupid. He's just much rather be out doing something rather than sitting around poring over books. He's not a jerk, but if he doesn't like you or you get on his bad side for some reason, he'll definitely let you know. He's got a short fuse when it comes to his temper, and definitely doesn't like to lose, which can come back to bite him in the ass. But his anger is short-lived and tends to blow over quickly.

But those who think they know Izzy, don't really know him at all. For all his outgoing friendliness, his seemingly easy confidence, there is much more going on beneath the surface. Izzy isn't really confident at all, having spent much of his childhood isolated from his peers. He needs other people's approval to validate himself worthy of attention, and he can be hurt with surprising ease. He's also struggling with his sexuality. More like denying it in the hopes that he'll be more like his preconceived notion of "normal."

This site offers more insight into Izzy's personality with the following:

Expect stamina, incredible courage, intense and stormy emotions, burning idealism, and indomitable will. Scorpios are never drawn in shades of pastel; they are always blood red and mesmerizing gold. There are few followers born under these aspects; Scorpios born into this house tend to be either leaders or loners. They are well placed on the Quidditch field, where their natural competitive streak and their great store of personal energy make them natural Beaters (or, really, naturals at any position on the field). Expect them to get into frequent duels, and expect them to gravitate naturally to DADA, for all Scorpios are fascinated by anything dark and forbidden, and Scorpios will want to take their place as defenders as early in their careers as possible. Expect passion. Expect wisdom. But don't expect a lot of time to take a breather. Many people born under this aspect also end up as Aurors; they're the perfect "bad cops" to the "good cop" Libra wizards.

History

Israel was the product of a relationship between his squib mother, Marjorie Pope, and her muggle boyfriend, Lenox Jackson. At first, the couple was happy with their little boy, but when Israel started showing signs of magical ability as a toddler, Lenox couldn't handle it and he left one night without a word. Not only did Israel have to grow up not knowing his father, but his mother also blamed him for driving away the man she loved. "If only you'd been normal," she would often say, and the sentiment ingrained itself in Izzy's young psyche.

That isn't to say Marjorie was a negligent mother, but she was hardly what you'd call loving. She didn't let Izzy associate with other children in their South Boston neighborhood for fear that he might accidentally do magic. It was only after six-year-old Izzy and his mother moved in with Izzy's grandmother, Ada, he started to get a taste of real affection. Ada essentially raised Izzy, home-schooling him and teaching him about his heritage. It was from her that he learned that he came from a long line of witches and wizards, going back to Basheba Pope, a survivor of the Salem Witch Trials. Ada taught him not only basic education, but also about magic and the Wizarding world. She also filled in the gaps that Izzy's mother had left in him emotionally, allowing him to play with other children on occasion. But as much as he enjoyed playing with kids his age, Izzy always held back, knowing he wasn't "normal" like them.

When it came time for Izzy to attend Salem Academy, things got worse before they got better. Marjorie was dead set against her son going to a school for "freaks". She and Ada got into a huge fight over it that only ended when Izzy declared he wanted to "be with kids like him". A few days later, Izzy's mother packed her things and left, accusing Ada of turning her own son against her. With his mother abandoning him because he wasn't "normal", Izzy began to think that maybe there was something truly wrong with him. His grandmother spent months convincing him that wasn't true, and by the time Izzy actually left for Salem Academy, he could almost believe it.

In fact, once he was surrounded by kids who could do what he did, once he learned he wasn't as different as he thought, Izzy finally understood that he was perfectly normal - for a healthy, growing wizard. He truly blossomed then, becoming something of a social animal. He enjoyed being with people, liked having the attention and high regard of his peers. For the first time, Izzy was truly comfortable with himself. That is, until puberty hit and he started to realize that he was much more interested in boys than girls.

Once more, Izzy is experiencing all the self-doubt he used to before. Turns out, he's not as "normal" as he thought he was and, at the height of his social game, he's struggling with who he wants to be and who he truly is.
