FAQs
Q1: When is the game set? A1: This game is running in present-day time. If it's June 5th, 2009 in real time, it's June 5th, 2009 in game. Moon phases and holidays will match moon phases and holidays in the United States. Q2: Can my character be related to Harry Potter/Willow Rosenberg/Harry Dresden/insert some fictional witch/wizard here? A2: We prefer entirely original characters, but your character CAN be related to Durmstrang character mentioned in canon. Karkaroff's nieces or nephews, Krum's cousins. Those are acceptable, but will be scrutinized. Relatives to any other witches/wizards from other series are not allowed. Q3: How do characters get to and from school? A3: Students walk to and from Durmstadt. There is a Floo station there by which students come from all over Eastern Europe and then proceed to Durmstrang. Q4: How old should my character be? A4: The birthday cut off is December 31st. If your student is born later than that, they will matriculate the following year. For example, students who will be fifth years in 2009-2010 should be born between January 1, 1993 and December 31st, 1993. Fifth years will turn 16 sometime during the course of that year. We are accepting fifth years through eighth years only, please. Q5: So wait, how does the school year work? A5: The school year is broken into trimesters, not standard semesters. That gives students more time at school. The school year begins in August, with three weeks break in December/January, another three weeks in April, and the final three week break in July. Q6: How do electives work? A6: Electives for students who wish to take them. They are highly encouraged. Considering the emphasis Durmstrang puts on academics, students may be looked down upon for not choosing an elective to fill their course schedules. Q7: Where does Durmstrang pull its student base from? A7: For our purposes, all over Eastern Europe. Check the hierarchy page for a list of available countries/nationalities. Q8: Draco Malfoy was almost sent to Durmstrang. Can't my character come from the UK or someplace not on the list? A8: No, only because we'd have no idea where to stick them in the hierarchy. We'd rather you stick to the list. However, if we've left out a country, just poke us and we'll see where that fits in. Q9: Does Durmstrang accept transfers? A9: No, because the curriculum is too specific to Durmstrang. Students must be enrolled from first year on, and cannot leave for a year and return. If you leave, you leave, period. Q10: How do I get a journal here? It's invite only! A10: Once your application has been accepted, we will issue you an invite for you to create your journal. Easy as that. =) Q11: Why am I not getting notifications in my own journal? A11. This is a strange little glitch that's easily fixed. After creating your journal, and validating, you will want to go here. Click on "Manage Message Settings." In Messages settings, you MUST uncheck the box that says "Someone comments in my journal, on any entry." Otherwise, you will not receive email notifications of comments. Q12: You rejected my app! I hate you! It's the end of the world! A12: Hey now, relax! If we rejected the application we probably responded with at least one reason (but probably more) regarding why it wasn't accepted. You have three options. Option one is to revise your application and resubmit it. Option two is apply for a different character that is more appropriate to the game. Option three is to choose not to reapply, if you had your heart set on what was rejected.
