AND THE MAGICAL VILLAGE OF DURMSTADT Durmstrang is nestled in the Black Forest, safely hidden away from prying and/or Muggle eyes. The roof is enchanted so that from the air it looks like trees. Only those who have attended know of its location, and once graduating from its hallowed halls, one cannot simply return easily. Only students second through eighth years retain magical knowledge of its exact location, as well as professors and other grounds staff. First years are guided to the castle; all other students retain a magical knowledge of the school's location. Nearby Durmstrang is the wizarding village of Durmstadt, which is as well hidden from nonmagical eyes as Durmstrang. The land is unplottable, and no Muggle who's ever stumbled onto it has left Pictured below, Durmstadt is often where students go on weekends or over breaks if they are not returning home. In Durmstadt, one will find numerous places of entertainment, including restaurants, taverns, shops, and historical sites. Legal drinking age in Germany is sixteen, unless the spirits are distilled, in which case, the age is eighteen. However, in Durmstadt, purveyors will sell distilled liquor to as young as sixteen. Magical age tests are sometimes performed. This might be a bit of a surprise to some students, as many other countries boast a younger or no legal drinking age at all. A student may find in Durmstadt an abundance of overly German wares, but there are some places that cater to students and attempt to bring them a bit of home. This however only extends down to fifth level hierarchy. It is hard to find places catering to Bulgarians, Romanians, or Slovakians, but they do exist. As for anything below, Durmstadt will not sully its soil by catering to the bottom rungs of society. Durmstadt is also the place to go for purchasing school supplies, potion ingredients, cauldrons, cloaks, anything and everything that a student or professor might need. A large outlet of Oleksienko Wands is located here, as well as a few other regional wandmakers. One can even find inns for extended trips or hourly trysts, if that is the sort of thing one is looking for. The less moral of proprietors will rent rooms hourly to witches and wizards as young as fifteen. • First through fifth years are sorted by year onto the third and fourth floors, in the North, West, and East wings, then split by gender. Both genders share a common room. Boys may not enter girls' dorms and girls may not enter boys' dorms for students below sixth year. -- The West wing houses the 1st years on the third floor. -- The North wing houses the 2nd and 3rd years, on the third and fourth floors, respectively. -- The East wing houses the 4th and 5th years, on the third and fourth floors, respectively. • Sixth and seventh years are sorted by path into two towers, one for sixth and one for seventh years. Each path shares a common room. Students are split into rooms of twos or threes by gender. As a privilege for coming so far, and in order to gain new responsibilities, boys and girls may now move freely between each other's dorms. Sixth and Seventh Year Common Rooms are only accessible by anyone sixth year and above, including staff. • Eighth years are assigned private rooms [accessible by both genders] in their own tower and all three paths share one common room. The Eighth Year Common Room is magically inaccessible to anyone but staff and Eighth Years themselves unless invited. • Staff rooms are located on the fourth floor of the West wing, and the West, North, and East wings of the fifth floor. The Staff Common Room is magically inaccessible to anyone but staff unless given permission. The Staff Common Room also houses all books restricted from students' use. • The Headmistress's Office is located on the fourth floor. Her doors are open between the hours of 10 AM and 12PM, as well as 3PM to 5PM. All other times, her office requires either an appointment or other permission to enter. Only the Headmistress can grant this permission. The Headmistress's private rooms are located on the fifth floor above her office and are magically inaccessible unless invited. In the northern area behind the school is the Quidditch Pitch, where quidditch is played in the spring and summer.
