Quidditch
In the northern area behind the school are the Quidditch Pitches. Quidditch at Durmstrang is a different kind of sport depending on year. In the spring, fifth years may try out for the sixth year Quidditch team. Quidditch is not played as a competitive sport for first through fifth years. Upon reaching sixth year, Quidditch is divided by path. Only sixth and seventh years actively compete in Quidditch tournaments. There are three teams, one Dark, one Light, and one Grey. The teams are made for both sixth and seventh year students. Whichever path wins the tournament wins the Quidditch Crest for that year, to be displayed in their common room until won by another path. The Quidditch crest currently sits in the Dark Path common room. Eighth years do not play competitively, but often choose to play each other for the sport, when they have time, and will remain on the same teams they had been on seventh year. Quidditch games are played every Saturday afternoon in spring and summer. Please check the Quidditch calendar here. All teams practice anytime there is practice on the calendar. Durmstrang has one main pitch and two smaller areas also used as pitches. Whatever path is listed at on each practice day, that is the team that has the main pitch. The other teams will use the smaller pitches those days. It alternates so everyone has use of the main pitch for the same amount of days. Once games begin, the structure changes a bit. Two teams alternate the main pitch during the week. That Saturday, those two teams will have a match. For example: Tuesday, the Dark Path has the main pitch. Thursday, the Grey Path does. Light path has the small pitches both days. That Saturday is a match between Dark and Grey. The following week will change to give Light Path a chance to practice in the main pitch before their up coming game. We hope that makes sense. Believe us, the visual really helps. When the season begins, we will determine the outcome of the matches, and post it on Sundays so interested players will be informed.
