I haven't posted in forever, I know. Real Life™ has got in the way.
Here's the important bit: We are way short on money. If we don't get any more paid accounts, then IS goes dark in roughly two months' time, because I don't have the money right now to support IS out of my personal funds. I also don't have a lot of time to work on IS (but more on that in a minute) so I'm cutting prices.
New paid account pricing:
$3 for one month of paid time
$15 for 6 months of paid time
$25 for 1 year of paid time
I'm eliminating the 3 month deal entirely. You want 3 months, you pay $9.00.
Next, time. At the moment, I have some extra time on my hands. So I think I'm going to redo IS in Ruby On Rails, because it sounds like a fun time, and I can use it for resume fodder (IS doesn't pay my bills at all). This precludes us from going on the DW code eventually, but I don't see DW rolling out a sitewide conversion tool anytime soon.
Dedicated (colo) server may or may not go up - it's sitting in my living room ready to go, but I don't have the money to pay for rack space and IS's current dedicated server.
Finally, even though they're our competition, I will let all of you know that Dreamwidth have made IS available as an import source. This means you can import your journal from IS to DW if you have a DW account.

Switching codes may help work out the problems, but I really think if we could fix the two biggest things that hinder people from getting journals here, that might bring in more cash.
Can you take donations by money order?

"cash""Inksome LLC"I don't think many people are going to complain.
See this site on the left side. They have a bar that shows you how much is their "target" for the month.
If we knew how much money you needed to raise to keep it going, it would give us more confidence in the end result, and give us a goal to aim for, instead of just "We need more."
Site with ads > principles but no site.
As a note: You may want to change the prices required by PayPal. Please, consider the change from my transaction as a small donation, though.
Best of luck with everything, and thank you for creating a journaling site that I enjoy as much as I do.
That said, I'll be buying some amount of paid time once I figure out what I can spare. o7
This is mostly my bad, of course, but a little more clarity couldn't hurt.
I am repulsed by the idea of my RP communities and characters having to move to somewhere like IJ or Scribbld, because those sites are not the atmosphere they were built in. Inksome is, and I would like them to stay here.
I was intending to purchase some RP accounts - just so that you had some money flow.. I certainly don't need the add ons, with all we were/are given for free. but I only work during the school year, so I wouldn't be able to until September - and personally, I'd be pretty upset to go ahead and buy some accounts to try and keep things alive, only for the site to be gone (at that point) in less than a month.
Your quickest and most reliable way to get responses is sales. Offering more for less money is going to get a surge of buyers, but you can't offer unlimited things for cheap or people will just take advantage of it - and that was a concern I had early on, when I found IS. This is the same reason GJ eventually folded. It's nice to have things for free, but it's better to pay a little and get a bit more than get a whole bunch for free only to lose it in such a short period of time.
Either way, I'm sure you're too busy to go reading through all of these comments but - good luck. My fingers are crossed for you getting the money you need to keep things afloat. I, for one, am not interested in making a switch to DW, even without IS still around and I'm sure some other people have that same sentiment.

Eeek, please excuse the stupidity of my question, but does "dark" mean "offline for forever"?
