Setting
Disclaimer: For the purposes of this roleplaying game, the city of Salem, Massachusetts and surrounding areas have been fictionalized. The mods are fully aware of slight, unrealistic discrepancies. They are intentional. No disrespect is intended. The Salem Academy for Magical Edification is located deep in the woods just outside the picturesque tourist city of Salem, Massachusetts. Also known as the Witch City, Salem is located right on Massachusetts Bay. The area tends to be windy and mild in the Spring, hot and humid in the Summer, crisp and rainy in Autumn, and experiences heavy snowfall in the Winter. Salem Academy enjoys the proximity to a bustling port town while maintaining its secrecy. The Salem Woods were bewitched by the school's founders. Any Muggle entering them soon loses the desire to explore much further into the forest and soon becomes overwhelmed by the urge to just go home and find something more fun to do. Local Muggles are aware of the existence of Salem Academy, but only in a vague sense and certainly not that it is a magical school. They believe, thanks to the rumors and false information leaked around town by various headmasters over the years, that Salem Academy is an exclusive private school and that students are hand-picked to attend. Because of the extensive spells employed to protect Salem Academy, local Muggles never try to get their own children enrolled. Students of the Academy are allowed and even encouraged to form bonds and make friends with the local Muggle population, but no Muggles - with the exception of relatives of Muggle-born and half-blood students and staff - are allowed on campus. Anyone caught sneaking a Muggle on campus will face immediate expulsion and the Muggle in question will be Obliviated.  Click to enlarge map. [Opens in new window/tab] A. Upper Academy: Building in which all Upper Grade students [Freshmen through Seniors] have their classes. Essentially high school. Also the location of faculty offices and the campus library. Astronomy lessons held on the roof. B. Lower Academy: Building in which all Lower Grade students have their classes. Essentially junior high school. Also the location of faculty offices. C. Bishop House: Dormitories for all students sorted into Bishop. Owlery located on the roof. D. Osborn House: Dormitories for all students sorted into Osborn. Owlery located on the roof. E. Proctor House: Dormitories for all students sorted into Proctor. Owlery located on the roof. F. Wardwell House: Dormitories for all students sorted into Wardwell. Owlery located on the roof. G. Faculty Housing: Private apartments of Salem Academy faculty and staff. Also the location of Salem Academy's Restricted Books Collection. Students are prohibited from entering the building. Owlery located on the roof. H. Lower Student Housing: Dormitories for Lower Academy [junior high school] students. Owlery located on the roof. I. The Commons: Area located at the heart of the Salem Academy Campus. Students can gather to study, have club meetings, or just hang out with friends. J. Quodpot Field: Field on which Quodpot matches are held. Also used for cheerleading and Quodpot practice. 1. Visitor Parking: Parking for visiting parents, families, and deliveries. 2. Student and Faculty Parking: Parking for students and faculty. 3. Visitor Parking: Parking for visiting parents, families, and others from the Wizarding community that have come to watch Quodpot matches.
