Memories 1-3
Memory #1: Being mistaken for someone ten years younger (Neutral Trivial); Bottom of page
What He Remembered/Learned:
- A girl
- He fought in the Bakumatsu
- He's twenty-eight
- ORO
Thoughts: None, really, other than he's not very surprised he's older than he appears.
Memory #2: Gambling with Sanosuke (Neutral Happy); 157-159
What He Remembered/Learned:
- Sano, Sano's name
- . . . Sano abuses his skills for gambling
- He's a swordsman
- The name of his school is Hiten Mitsurugi
- HE RULES AT DICE
- His "sakabatou" is illegal
- Kaoru's name (and the -dono prefix), but does not know that the girl from the previous memory is Kaoru
- Something happened with a man named Jin'eh, who died
Thoughts: He's . . . pleased! That he's a swordsman, and that such a short memory gave him a lot to think about. He has a friend named Sano who was trying to cheer him up, even if it was while gambling, and even if Sano was abusing his skills to win. He is curious about what happened with this Jin'eh person, but if Sano doesn't seem to know about it, he assumes it's not as important, especially since Sano was acting very familiar with him.
Memory #3: Making his vow never to kill again (Neutral Significant); 35-38
What He Remembered/Learned:
- His family name
- A man named Shishio Makoto was taking over for him
- He was an assassin, and was asked to become a mobile attacker instead
- He fights for the Ishin Shishi
- The man asking him to do this is someone who trusts him greatly; he can only assume he trusts him in return
- He has taken . . . a lot of lives
- Tomoe's name
- That Tomoe taught him about "the small happinesses people live for."
- That when the new age comes, he will never kill again
Thoughts: THIS MEMORY DEPRESSES HIM SOME because he's . . . basically a killer! A former assassin. It confirms that he's a swordsman, but . . . yeah. Also, he speaks of Tomoe in the past tense, so he . . . isn't really too pleased with that, because he wants to know who she is! And why he spoke of her like that! And he'd also like to remember more about the man, especially his name, since . . . he was asking him to do all these things and he agreed to do them.
But the most important part of this memory was Kenshin declaring that he would never kill again - a vow. In his recording in the telescope, he told himself not to forget his vow, and well . . . now he remembers! Considering that he has already taken so many lives, he thinks that something must have happened for him to declare such an important thing - and to say he'd still wield his sword, without killing.
