Just a post of movies I may be interested in seeing this Holiday Season. More may be added, as I find out about them.

11/21- Bolt- This is Disney's latest computer animated feature. I'm not quite sure how much I really want to see it. The premise doesn't strike me that strongly (although I like it better than the original concept for the film, American Dog, which was quite a different story), but I feel as if maybe I should give it a chance. After all, Meet the Robinsons was pretty decent, and John Lasseter says he's very pleased with the end product of this film. I'll probably go. I can afford to spend five dollars to see it on a weekday or at matinee. If I don't see it at theaters, I'll rent it, at least. On a superficial note, I am displeased that the hamster is just not cute. I have wanted an adorable animated hamster to pop up in a movie for years. Alas.

11/26- Australia- I am definitely going to see this as soon as I can. I'm generally not that big on romantic epics, but I love Baz Lurhman's work. Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom were brilliant (although I wasn't a big fan of his Romeo + Juliet. The concept was ingenious, the execution faltered for me). I love Australia and it's a country that has been sorely unexplored in cinema. I look forward to what Baz does with this movie. At the very least, it will be totally sumptuous and gorgeous.

12/19- The Tale of Despereaux- The original book is by Kate DiCamillo. I've read one of her books (Because of Winn-Dixie) and plainly did not like it. As such, whether I see this or not depends on what kind of feedback it gets. I thought the previews were very cute and Despereaux himself is just ridiculously adorable (note to Disney, as you cannot make a cute hamster apparently. This is a cute rodent).

12/19- Yes Man- So I love Jim Carrey, I admit it. He's brilliant. I haven't seen any of his movies since Bruce Almighty, but I'll definitely try and see this one. There's a Harry Potter scene in it. I can't turn that down.

12/25- Bedtime Stories- Even goofier than my love of Jim Carrey is my fannishness of Adam Sandler flicks. I.love.them. This movie looks like it could be another Night at the Museum, a surprisingly funny and endearing family film. I will probably see it on Christmas night. I never miss a Sandler movie.

12/25- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button- Having read the original short story by F Scott Fitzgerald, and having seen the previews for this film, it's obvious that the two are very different. That's fine, because I don't expect a short story to be made into a feature-length film without some major changes. Movie is too long, story is too short. I'm not a fan of Brad Pitt. I don't necessarily dislike him, as I've just rarely seen him in roles I've enjoyed much. But I think this film looks very lush and beautiful, and depending on the feedback it gets, I'll probably go see it.

Unknown Date- Waltz With Bashir- This is this year's "artsy and adult animated film," coming after last year's Persepolis. I enjoyed Persepolis and I'm very glad I watched it, but I didn't think it was quite the masterpiece a lot of people painted it as. This movie might be the same, but I feel like, as an animation fan, I should definitely make time to watch it. It sounds pretty intense.

Of course what I should be watching this holiday season is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but alas. :(
