Family/Relationships

Parents: Marianne's mother Anne moved to America when she was fifteen. She had constantly been shuttled around since she was small, as her father often got a gnawing case of wanderlust. Still now, he spends half the year in Denver and half in the South of France. Anne is the witch in Marianne's family, something she has passed onto Marianna and not her two sons. Secretly Anne feels partially guilty for not blessing all of her children with magic, but she knows she had no control over it. Anne met James outside of James' school. Anne always enjoyed male attention, a trait she seems to have passed onto her daughter, and James was only happy to dote on his sweetheart. After a passionate yet rocky marriage, and three children, James said goodbye to Anne. He was fixated on his career, and hardly paid any attention to his kids. Marianne was ten when her Father left for New York, to be closer to the business he loved, and never really got over her "daddy issues", often needing attention and reassurance from boys. James went on to marry again, to a woman half his age. Anne almost had a breakdown when this happened, she has a leaning towards the dramatic and macarbe that is not pleasent for her children to witness.

Like most teenage girls, Marianne fights with her Mother, not helped by the fact the two are so much alike. She, nor her brothers have not a lot to do with James, preferring to stop the yearly summer trips to his flat in New York once they were old enough to be grossed out by the PDA on show from him and his new wife.

Anne has a strong London accent, she was too old when she came over from England for the accent to fade, and as a result Marianne has some English affliction to her speech.

Siblings: Marianne is the middle of three children. Her older brother Jamie is Twenty, and Marianne's favourite person in the world. Though Jamie is a rough-and-tumble boy through and through, he always took time to play Barbies with his little sister when they were little. Jamie delivers pizzas every evening, but he's happy enough doing it. He gets to listen to his own music in the pizza truck and gets pretty good tips.

Her younger brother, Lucas is a pain in Marianne's butt. At Thirteen, he is every teenage girl's worst nightmare. He is constantly finding ways to make Marianne's life as hard as possible, and Marianne's always thinking up new and inventive ways to cause his physical harm. It never comes to actual fruitation though, because she is fiercely proud of both her brothers and would do anything to make them happy. Lucas is a big geek, but Marianne has learnt a lot of video game expertise from their Call of Duty missions. She misses the little squirt when she's away from him.

Extended Family: Marianne has countless Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, Godparents, Second Cousins.. The list is endless. Her Mother left a large family back in England, and often care packages come for Marianne in the mail with all sorts of lotions and make up and bath salts. Marianne is the only girl to be born so far in the family, and has been fussed over ever since she was a baby. The reuslt of this is her being very used to attention and affection, making her hold herself in very high regards!

Sexuality: Marianne craves attention and will gladly accept it from boy or girl! (Her Mother says it's the curse of being a middle child.)
Significant Others: None, and none wanted. Why have one when you can have them all?

Appearance

PB: Lily Allen! She's just so cute and awww her little face!

Physical description: Marianne is short at 5'4 and petite in frame. She's not exactly toned, as excercise isn't her forte, but she does enjoy belly dancing which keeps her shapely. She has long brown hair with heavy bangs. It's the same hairstyle she has had since she was five, but she feels it frames her brown eyes nicely, which are large and expressive. Marianne has a wicked grin to accompany her wicked laugh. She has no particular leanings to any given style, but usually chooses pieces that play up to her cuteness such as tea dresses. Mari has pierced ears and has no interest in any other piercings as of yet. She prefers to be barefoot whenever possible, especially if there is a particularaly inviting carpet underfoot. Her nails are bitten down and her toenails are always painted bright red. Her mother always says you're never dressed without 1) painted toenails and 2) matching underwear. Mari takes both these points to heart.

Personality

Likes: swearing, frills, ruffles, buttons, shiny things, boys in flannel, boys that can play drums, laughing when people fall over, jinxing, boys, secretly judging other girls, not so secretly bitching about other girls, as much attention as she can get, fluttering her eyelashes.

Dislikes: flying, exercising, people who leave one of the buds of their headphones in their ear when having a conversation with you, turnips, floo-ing to school.
Quirks: Thumbsucker, nail biter and a chronic fidgeter. She finds it hard to stay in one place for very long. Mari knows an extensive catalogue of rude songs and poems to entertain with.

Secrets:
-Once her little brother Luke was teasing her so much she accidentally turned him into a snail for five whole minutes. Neither of them have ever told anyone out of embarrassment.
- Marianne has never gotten out of the habit of sucking her thumb. No one knows she still does it. She even had braces to fix the problem. After they were off, she just went right back to sucking.
-She once dipped her step mother's spoon in peanut butter before she used to for her cereal, just to see what it was like for someone to have an allergic reaction. It wasn't pretty and it's Marianne's darkest secret.
Strengths: Mari has a knack for disgustingly horrible jinxes. Her amusement of people in embarrassing situations coupled with her weakness of defending her family blindly, has lead to some sticky (literally) situations at school that have gone down in history. She doesn't take life seriously and is hardly in a bad mood because of it. Whether being in a good mood is good for her companions remains to be seen. Marianne is a charming girl who always manages to see the bright side of life, her optimism is infectious and she is the person to go to if you need (forcibly) cheering up.
Weaknesses: Marianne is very strong willed, to the point of finding it hard to accept no as an answer. She is naughty, and gets in trouble for silly things like distracting the class or talking back to Professors. She has a disregard for authority, especially when being ordered what to do. Mari is a merciless teaser, and often can't draw the line between banter and being offensive.

Detailed Personality: Some people would class Marianne as a trouble maker, which isn't strictly true. She has a very brash way of speaking, and an honest streak which most people don't want to hear. Her disregard for embarrassing situations often finds Mari in trouble with her friends, she's the person who will tell everyone her best friend's on her period and that's why she's being crabby today. Marianne's slight English twang gets her noticed, and she knows it. She'll play this up, especially when telling jokes. Her jokes are always filthy, full of swearing and followed by her wicked laugh. Marianne would liken herself to your drunk Nan on Christmas Day, getting a bit too tipsy and cackling to herself in the corner.

Marianne craves attention, good or bad, it doesn't matter. Being at the centre of it is optimal at all times. She isn't worried about the politics of highschool, and who is popular and who you should associate with, Mari just talks to anyone. This has made her fairly well known through the school, although terrifying to first year students.

She is a total Anglophile, her room at home is covered with British bands, her favourite being The Beatles. Marianne's favourite pair of underwear have unionjacks on, which she'll gladly flash you. Her biggest dream in life is to rent a tiny flat in London and catch the big red bus every morning to work. Mari grudingly accepts she likes to play videogames, especially multi-player games. She plays a mean Mario Kart and happily accepts the challenge to top her winning streak.

All the swearing and unlady-like behaviour aside, Marianne is a very girly-girl who loves to spend time with her close girl friends and watch Sex and the City re-runs for five hours straight. She would desperately like to be able to kiss a bunch of boys and have dinner dates in tutu's with her friends.

History: Marianne was born on a humid, sweet smelling March evening in Denver, Colorado. She gave her parents quite the runaround, arriving three weeks late and even then unwilling to make an apperance. She's hardly been on time for anything since. Everyone in the extended family had been waiting for her birth, praying they would have their first girl to fuss over. Their wish came true and Marianne became a living, breathing doll to be stuffed into as many pink frilly dresses. Almost all of Mari's family photographs are deeply embarrassing, with her thumb stuck in her mouth and covered in fluff, or tulle.

Marianne was always a Mommy's girl, preferring to sit on her Mother's lap than run around with Jamie climing trees. Her childhood was spent trying to get her Father to watch Beauty and the Beast with her, but he always said he was too tired from work. Once Lucas was born, she had to stop climming up onto her Mother's lap, because baby Lucas would be sleeping. Mari resented her little brother for a long time, before she was allowed to "care" for Lucas. Her Mother would often leave the room and find Lucas covered in lipstick with a tiara on his head.

At school, Marianne would draw and paint, otherwise she would cry. All she drew were Robins, which became a comfort. The highlight of Marianne's childhood came when she was nine years old and the whole family flew over to England to stay with her Great Aunt in Norfolk. She had a big garden, where Mari saw her first Robin pecking away at the ground. It was magical, until Lucas scared it off. He got a dead arm for that.

She displayed her first sign of magic at age seven. Watching Pets Do The Funniest Things on T.V, Mari was laughing so hard she began to levitate. She was widthdrawn from school and taught at home by her mother, who taught her how to blend colours when painting and famous stories of powerful wizards and witches in fairytales. When the time came for Mari to start at Salem, she was given a calico cat, which then had to be sent home as Mittens gave her a terrible rash.

Marianne was sorted into Bishop house, not having her parents or siblings having been to Salem school before, she had no idea the connotations of any of the houses. Whilst in her first few hours of being sorted, Mari attatched herself to a couple of girls, her favourite becoming Louise, a plump, comforting girl with a kind face. Louise is still Marianne's long-suffering best friend and Marianne adores her to pieces. Mari realised from an early age she didn't display much talent in magic, and it wasn't until a second year began picking on Louise for her red hair one day that a jinx she had overheard whooshed out of her wand and taught the bully a lesson. For that second, Mari realised what it was to truly do magic, and her grades became acceptable.

A big part of Marianne's life has been boys. Her major life events all revolve around boys. She had her first kiss at fourteen, just further than the Quadpot field at school in trade for the boy's answers to a nasty Defence Against the Dark Art's essay. Mari now wonders if this was a brief foray into prostitution, but doesn't like to dwell. Now, there's no stopping her as she seems hell bent on kissing as many boys as possible. Somehow Mari has been able to avoid being called any unwanted names just by being as unashamed as she can be about her escapades. However, Marianne is saving her V-Card for the right boy to come along, and he has to be able to play at least four instruments.

Since her Father left, her and her brother's made the trip down to New York City to stay with him in his posh, minimalist apartment every summer. Marianne found it all a bit of a drag, as she would rather be at home watching MTV than trying to play Scrabble with a man she saw once a year out of duty. However, one good thing that came out of the trips were the visits to the Natural History Museum. Marianne was always enthralled by the Ancient Egypt exibitions, a fascination with hyrogliyphics that spurred her to take Ancient Runes in school. The visits stopped eventually, when Jamie put his foot down and refused "to make small talk with a man who has his tongue down the throat of a whore 23 hours of the day".

Nowadays Marianne likes to spend as much time in her best friend Louise's room, swooning over teenage George Harrison and planning trips to London when they're both rich and famous. Mari had a few extra curricular activites, including cooking, which she did to support Louise, and dancing as a form of getting some of her pent up energy out. Mari has cautiously joined the Gaming club, as a way to scream at other people without being repremanded.
