Suspensions again [Aug. 24th, 2008|08:04 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Once again I remind everyone that reselling Inksome accounts is in violation of Inksome's Terms of Service. This includes exchanging an account for a rename token.

The following accounts were offered up for trade for "nothing less than a rename or paypal" on IJ. I consider that tantamount to sale, so I am suspending them:

jessica
knk
lopez
shannon
squid
clarity
x

ETA Thanks to "aimee" who noted that I had forgotten "clarity" and "x".

These accounts were offered up for sale on IJ, and will thus be suspended:

Captchas in place [Aug. 24th, 2008|07:50 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Captchas are now in place on Inksome. However, they are not entirely limited to anonymous comments. If you are not logged in to Inksome, and you try and comment on someone's journal, you will be required to answer a captcha even if you choose the "Inksome User" option. I know it's a little annoying, but that's the way the LJ code works (I was able to enable the captcha features in the code currently running on IS).

Now, again, let me emphasize that this will not affect you if you are logged in. If you're logged in, the system assumes you're a human, and will let you comment without a captcha challenge.

Permanent account prices reduced, and paid account sale! [Aug. 20th, 2008|03:56 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

After some thinking, and some good advice, I have decided to reduce the price for Permanent accounts to $120 (that's $30 cheaper than LJ). And in case you've forgotten, a permanent account gets you all the features of a paid account for as long as Inksome is around, (and by purchasing a Permanent account, you help Inksome to stay around for a long time) plus:

50 additional userpics, for a total of 300
250 additional maximum friends, for a total of 1500, and
1 free rename.

In addition, Permanent account holders can upgrade to 500 userpics for $90. This last goes for early contributors as well - $90 puts you up to 500 max. userpics.

I'm also temporarily reducing the price of one year's paid time to $20, but that's only for yearly accounts. Prices on one, three, and six months of paid time remain the same. This sale ends at the same time the Permanent account sale ends - midnight CST on Friday, 12 September 2008.

Reselling Inksome accounts [Aug. 19th, 2008|06:51 pm]
[Tags|, ]

It has recently been brought to my attention that people are reselling Inksome accounts. This is in direct violation of the Terms of Service, specifically section XI: "NO RESALE OF SERVICE".

Based upon the evidence at http://asylums.insanejournal.com/inksome/5864.html (flocked IJ post) I believe these accounts are being offered for sale. I am thus suspending them.

Anonymous comments in this journal and staff journals [Aug. 17th, 2008|08:50 pm]
[Tags|]

We welcome your feedback but we cannot carry on a conversation with an anonymous entity. We do not require that all commenters have journals or even that they be logged in. We do require that all anonymous comments be signed. Even if you choose an alias, we simply ask that you use the same one for each comment.

Let's say that two weeks ago you commented in a news post with a concern. Two weeks later you are still concerned and comment in a different post. But you're anonymous. We don't know if there are two people with the same concern or one person whose question still isn't answered.

So, with that in mind, from this point forward all anonymous comments must be signed or they will be deleted. We will issue warnings because we can't expect everyone to read this. A simple reply to the warning with your name will be fine and we'll be happy to talk to you.

From all of us at Inksome, thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Permanent accounts on sale! And looking for beta RP communities [Aug. 14th, 2008|09:15 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[Current Mood | excited]

Inksome is having a Permanent Account Sale!

Permanent accounts are a great way to get more for your money. Not only do you get all the features of a paid account in perpetuity, you also get

50 additional userpics, for a total of 300
250 additional maximum friends, for a total of 1500, and
1 free rename.

Note that the additional userpics and max. friends will always be in effect, so if paid accounts get a 50 userpic increase to 300, perm accounts will get increased to 350.

A permanent account costs $150. This is a limited time sale! This sale expires at midnight CST on Friday, 12 September 2008. That means at 12:01 on Saturday the 13th, it's too late.

Probably of interest only to roleplaying types )

Finally, we know some people are nervous about giving money to us because we're not stable like LJ. In an attempt to set your mind at ease, here's some stuff that's going on:

* Inksome recently registered as an LLC in Missouri. We even get junk mail!
* Kit has been busy putting account type on userinfo and is closer than ever to getting the process of converting accounts automatic.
* Jamie and Kit talk about Inksome at home daily. Jamie gets some impossible idea and Kit ruminates on feasibility.
* The Inksome staff in general are hard-working folk who have made our site look different from just any LJ clone. They are working to get styles un-b0rked. And they've been hard at work assembling a FAQ for our site.

In short, we are dedicated to keeping Inksome working.

Thank you for your support.

Account type now shows up in userinfo [Aug. 13th, 2008|10:42 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Your account type will now be showing up in your userinfo. Paid users will see their expiration dates when they view their own userinfo - other users will simply see the fact that they are paid users.

In the interest of being open, I'll be posting the code in [info]staff_kit.

ETA: Just to make things clear: You and Inksome staff are the only people who will ever see your expiration date if you're a paid user. I believe that it's nobody else's business how much paid time you have.

Arr, mateys! There be bounties afoot! [Aug. 8th, 2008|09:36 am]
[Tags|, ]
[Current Mood | hopeful]

Sorry, folks, random Talk Like A Pirate moment. :)

So [info]staff_jamie has several ideas about how to make Inksome a more attractive place for fannish types like many of us are here. And I think they're great ideas, and I'd love to have them all. There's just one problem - I don't have the time to implement them. I work a full-time job, and don't have a lot of free time in the evenings. My weekends invariably are busy. So rather than wait for me to take the time to do this, I am offering bounties on these features:

* Improved comment thread expansion, maybe customizable
* The ability to display the most recent comments or the most recently updated thread in a post.
* A primary/secondary account system such that one personal journal may be noted as being "owned" by another journal. The user on the primary journal should be able to update the primary journal and all secondary journals.
* Captchas for anonymous comments using ReCAPTCHA

I am also offering a bounty for fixing the b0rked styles; if you want to work on that, I'll provide you with a copy of the DB with all users/communities removed.

Bounty is one permanent account for each. I'm also willing to entertain suggestions for other features; please contact me at kpeters@inksome.com if you'd like to discuss it.

I will be putting up a public Subversion repository soon; you're responsible for setting up your own development environment. Code must be submitted as patches to the existing Inksome code and licensed under the GNU GPL v2 or later.

Rename special! [Aug. 4th, 2008|03:11 pm]
[Tags|]

It has been suggested that I lower the price for renames. I am loath to do this as I must do it manually, but I'll give it a go.

From now until the end of August, renames will be $5 a pop.

Extra userpics are now available for sale! [Aug. 4th, 2008|01:09 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Extra userpics are available to paid members, permanent accounts, and early adopters in 350, 400, and 500 levels. These must be purchased for the same duration as your paid account (as it would be a lot of work to do it otherwise). Prices for each:

  • 350 extra userpics: $1/month (or fraction thereof) of paid time, or $10/year

  • 400 extra userpics: $2/month (or fraction thereof) of paid time, or $20/year

  • 500 extra userpics: $3/month (or fraction thereof) of paid time, or $30/year

Feel free to contact me to find out how long you've got on your paid account.

Prices are the same for early contributors and permanent accounts as well; when your "paid time" expires, your userpic limit will simply reset to previous. You'll still have your permanent/EC status

Final word on [info]anons [Jul. 22nd, 2008|10:46 am]

Deleted accounts [Jul. 20th, 2008|07:43 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

I just ran a purge on deleted accounts older than 60 days (i.e. they've been deleted for at least 60 days). If there's a name you're looking for, maybe it's become available.

Also, as of 00:00:00 CDT on 28 July 2008, I will be raising the prices for paid accounts.

New paid account prices will be:

$35 for one year (save $13 off the 3 month rate)
$19 for 6 months (save $5 off the 3 month rate)
$12 for 3 months

This should go without saying, but just in case: these prices are not retroactive. If you paid for a year at $25, you get a year. So if you want to renew, you might want to do it soon. :)

TOS update, and Inksome LLC [Jun. 29th, 2008|10:57 am]
[Tags|, , , ]

First of all, Inksome is now its own separate legal entity. Inksome is operated by Inksome, LLC, a Missouri Limited Liability Corporation.

IOW, we're a real business! :) Not that we make any money, but we'll work on that. :)

Secondly, I've updated the TOS. I did it mostly to reflect the presence of the LLC, but also to make an official policy statement on anonymous journals like [info]anons and [info]corbisians. To wit:

Anonymous journals are responsible for deleting or screening any comment that is held to be in violation of the TOS within a reasonable amount of time. I, or anyone I designate, determine what a "reasonable amount of time" is.

That said, [info]anons have been very good about deleting comments upon request. So if you have a problem with them, I suggest you see them first. If they refuse to delete the comment you're concerned with, tell me, and I'll deal with it.

Userpics! [Jun. 18th, 2008|01:51 pm]
[Tags|]

Due to an error in setting up certain users in the database, some free users had 150 possible userpics when they were only allotted 100. Since it was an error on Inksome's part, and no fault of those users, I have decided to raise the maximum userpic limit on all users by 50. So free users now have 150 maximum userpics, paid have 300, and early adopters have 350.

Early Contributor status [May. 27th, 2008|02:04 pm]
[Tags|]

I know that several early contributors do not have their promised capabilities (e.g. number of userpics, username.inksome.com URLs, etc.). If you are one of those users, please let me know and I will fix it.

ETA Thanks to [info]mysticshell and [info]bulma for reminding me that I said in this post that all users on Inksome before 1 May will have early contributor status. I intend to stick by that promise.

Suspended accounts [May. 18th, 2008|12:18 am]
[Tags|, ]

Back in the days of Scribblit, when I brought Beta on line, there were a number of accounts created there by non-Scribblit users. Lyn asked me to suspend those accounts, as they were not created in accordance with her instructions and wishes, and I complied. Now that Inksome is open to the public, there is a question of what to do with those accounts. I've thought a while about it, and here's what I've decided.

Those accounts that I suspended per Lyn's instructions above will be deleted and purged. The usernames will be made available on 26 May 2008, at which time they are available to anyone with a valid invite code.

Note that I will not hold these names for anyone. If you want it, you'll have to be the first to claim it that Monday.

"Other" and "None" as gender choices [May. 15th, 2008|09:43 am]
[Tags|]

I have modified the Edit Profile page to allow Inksome users to select "Other" and "None" as gender choices in addition to the traditional "Male", "Female", and "Unspecified". It is my opinion that Inksome should respect those people who do not consider themselves male or female gendered, and part of that respect is providing them the means to express their gender preference.

I understand that this solution is not fine-grained enough to express the full range of possible gender preferences in the current and future Inksome community. But I hope that this is a good start. I want Inksome to be a place where all people are welcome regardless of their gender preference.
