At first glance, it's the same, comfortable world where the impossible is possible. Except... ... most of the familiar faces are older. They've slowly stepped back from the arduous duties of being superheroes. As they have, the next generation of heroes have stepped forward to take up the mantle. A Spider still swings through the New York skyline, but it's Peter Parker's daughter saving the city now. Captain Marvel has taken the lead of the young Avengers, but that title belongs to the cosmically-powered son of the universe's greatest sidekick. A Summers still takes the lead for those that wear the X, but it's the rare, non-time displaced daughter of mythological giants. From Russia With Love [Sunday 12th Jul @ 12:53am] drnofuckingway Rules Taken List Reserve Application FAQ Mods Setting Info OOC The year is 2045 on an Earth not entirely like our own. Technology has taken huge leaps in some arenas of science, and magic is quite real. Just two decades ago the world was on the brink of World War III, with Russia using powerful weapons of magic and advanced technology to attack its neighbors and their allies. A certain group of Russians managed to build a very unique machine that they were able to use to summon "Legendaries" -- men and women, human and nonhuman, all with extraordinary ability. Often these individuals came not only from other realities, but from entirely unheard of worlds. This technology had not been fully perfected, and tended to give strange results if parameters were not specific enough. At first, these Legendaries fought for Russia, but eventually uncovered information showing that it was actually Russia that had started the war and discovered signs that Russia was only using them to further the national cause. The Legendaries held a rebellion, and many opted to fight alongside the militaries on the other side. Russia lost the war, and while NATO was able to confiscate the Rasputin Machine, they were unable to completely dismantle it; since that time, it's been known to summon more individuals from other places seemingly of its own will. As for the Legendaries, they had no place to go. The machine could not bring them home again, so most gained employment under a special organization based in San Fransisco that was funded by the American government, dealing with problems the machine caused, pockets of Russian rebellion, and other things "normal people" were simply not equipped to deal with. Over time peace came back to the world again, and the public perception held that the Legendaries were no longer needed. Since the war, they've settled down into perfectly normal lives with perfectly normal jobs and in some cases even perfectly normal families, but every now and then... Countshire University has always been an elite institution, accepting only highly talented or incredibly rich students into its ranks. Run from behind the scenes by a secret organization known simply as The Order, no students are brought there without a good reason. Countshire is a place filled with magic. Supernatural creatures - spirits - run abound, invisible to the normal human, though The Order is well-aware of their existence. Not only that - hidden to the public eye, there are also humans born with the gift of magic, and although few, Countshire University is invariably their place of choice to study. But creatures known as shades and demons also lurk there. It has been a priority of The Order to keep these creatures from disturbing the peace and though they have been successful for centuries, the numbers of these creatures seems to be increasing...
