Can I play an official Mabinogi character?
Yes, you may. Just apply for the role and we’ll see! Be sure to keep them in character. If you pick characters like Tin or Nao, it will be your responsibility to get them involved in the game. I don’t really suggest taking these guys, but if you want a challenge and have a plan, I won’t stop you. I’d actually really love to see people get creative with that.
Can I play a fomor?
Yes, you may. As long as it is a fomor that’s a little higher up in the thinking scale, unlike a mimic or country rat.
Can I play an animal?
No. It could get silly if I allow it, so it’s a no. Pan is the ONLY exception and that’s because he was created by Nexon and that makes him special. You CAN, however, have pets and control them. You just can’t play animals like a regular human/elf/giant/whatever character with a journal. Try not to have a shitton of pets. Currently, there is no limit on the amount of pets you can have in this game, and I want to keep it that way. If people start abusing the right, I might have to add one.
What if I have a ton of pets and some jackass ruins it for me and a limit is added? Do I lose my pets?
If you are one of the responsible pet owners, you won’t. I will create a grandfather clause and only punish the people who screwed up. Unfortunately, if you’re new to the game, the grandfather clause will not apply to you and you will have to abide by the limit.
Grandfather clause?
Allow me to use an example to explain what I mean. Let us say someone builds a theater in 1825. Now, fast forward a few years to 1922. They create a law about auditorium seating to avoid fire hazards. All buildings built after this law is passed are subjected to it. If they do not follow it, they can be fined and/or forced to change construction. However, that building that was built in 1825? It remains untouched. The law does not apply to it because it was built long before 1922.
If I ever add a new limit or rule, I will most likely use the grandfather clause. There will be exceptions, I’m sure. I can’t think of what they'd be, but I reserve the right to not implement a grandfather clause if I feel like there shouldn’t be one for a specific limit/rule. If I do have a grandfather clause for a new rule/limit, I’m sure the only person it won’t apply to is the person who the new limit or rule was put in place for.
What about spirit weapons?
They get the same treatment as pets. I don't really see a need for them to have separate journals or what have you. I reserve the right to add rules about this at any time.
Can I create a guild?
Yes, but there’s a catch. You must apply for a guild. In order to avoid 2,000 guilds everywhere, you must get at least 3-4 people for your guild. After that, you send in the guild application to the mod. I doubt there’ll be a huge problem and I doubt anyone will be denied, but I still reserve the right to deny guilds for any reason I see fit. Like in the game, you can only be in one guild, but exceptions might be made if someone wants to do a guild spy plot of sorts. Just discuss something like that with me first so I know. If I deny your request for a guild, you can appeal your case by explaining your side. You may be able to convince me that I made a mistake. I acknowledge that I'm only human. In the unlikely event you have to plead your case, please be an adult about it. I will immediately disregard your appeal if you come at me going “But Billy got to have a guild, baaaawww.”
If I make an original character, do they have to be from another world? Can they be originally from Erinn?
Sure. You just have to make sure their history matches up with how the world of Erinn works. I strongly suggest people NOT have them related to canon characters, but I won’t immediately disregard your profile if you want to be. I will put a cap on that. If you really want to be related to someone, it’ll be a first come, first serve.
It’s ideal that, if you do pick someone to be related to, someone is already playing that character or you want to take on that responsibility. This isn’t a requirement though. If someone is playing them, you must get permission from them before you try applying as their relative. This goes for original characters as well. I will ask the player if it had been okay-ed with them before I approve the character.
Can I add a few new things that aren’t in the game?
Depends. If you want to add a whole new city, speak with a mod. I wouldn’t be opposed to creating a new city specifically for this game! You just can’t do it out of the blue. I don’t want cities to suddenly be everywhere. It also helps mods create up-to-date maps and okay it with the other players. I am not hunting around profiles to learn our game suddenly acquired the city of Häagen-Dazs when no one was looking. I would wait until you've been playing in the game awhile before suggesting a big change like that, too. I don't want everyone sending in profiles with new cities.
If it’s something small, like a profession you want to pursue, hairstyle or clothing you want to wear, you probably don’t have to. (Mods do reserve the right to step in and say no though.) Just make sure it fits in with the setting and that we don’t have anachronisms everywhere. If it’s clothing that wouldn’t normally be found in Erinn, you can still do it. It just has to be assumed that your character is or has spoken with a tailor to make it. The same goes for weapons, but no handguns or anything. If you want ancient Chinese weapons, go ahead. But you’re not getting an uzi.
So, I can be another creature? For example, can I be a fairy?
Sure. I’d love to see more of a variety. You don’t have to be a human, elf, giant or fomor. You can be something else, too. Again, make sure it fits in with the setting. That’ll be your responsibility if you want that. It doesn’t matter what you are in-game. No one is going to look that deep into this stuff or care. This is where your imagination runs wild.
Why should I join when I can just play the game?
I want to give people a chance to expand on their gaming experience. Some people like to roleplay and this will give people a chance to roleplay things out they might not be able to in-game. It also allows people to do things they couldn’t do in-game.
Why adults only?
It's nothing personal. For one thing, Inksome doesn't allow minors. For another, it's to cover my own ass. I don't want minors RPing out sex scenes or being exposed to it, even if they swear they aren't reading it. I know some people feel like they're mature enough to handle it, but it still makes older people feel squicky. It could open some nasty doors to hallways I just don't wanna go down. I also don't want 200 e-mails a day from Little Billy from Idaho's mother saying that I've corrupted her child. When she finds porn on Billy's computer, I don't want to have any connection to that shit. We all know that kid has an entire folder dedicated to porn titled "Kittens." When poor Mrs. Billy's mom clicked on it to see some fluffy kitties, she was greeted with a very different kind of pussycat.
