Hades/Talik and Persephone/Anne
Who: Talik/Hades and Persephone/Anne
What: Christmas Eve Supper -- Persephone has some news that is going to knock Hades' socks off, but he pops the question first
Where: Anne's place -- she hasn't quite inquired as to the move-in situation, given that there is a certain canine complication and she doesn't want to impose on poor Hades with an excitable pooch
When: Evening of 12/24
Rating: tbd
Status: In progress

The place was decorated festively, twinkling lights of colors aplenty put up outside, some even decorating the garden, where everything was in bloom, despite the temperature and season, all things flourishing. And, indeed, it seemed more things had flourished than she had originally intended. Ironic. She grinned, almost nervously.

Inside, the scent of turkey and ham, stuffing and gravy, cranberry sauce and roasted potatoes, and apple pie filled the air. Everything was ready -- the dishes were prepared, candles lit for dinner, gifts laid out under a tree. Holiday music played in the background. Kerb barked excitedly at the scents that assaulted his sensitive canine nostrils, his tail wagging fiercely, looking at Persephone from time to time, as if to inquire about the timing of supper.

The Chthonic Queen had never been a pacer. But then, she'd never been one for apples, either -- she eyed the fruit in her hand strangely before taking a bite, as she paced, as if it would have a calming effect. It did not, though the taste was pleasant, much more pleasant than it rightly ought to have been. No, she'd never been one for apples. Or cookies and lamb kabobs, but that had been her lunch the previous day. She had never imagined that this could happen -- she'd stopped hoping centuries ago, had dismissed the idea entirely. She glanced at the clock, still pacing, trying to busy herself, to get her mind off her anxiety, off that strange mix of excitement and anticipation and nervousness.

What was she going to say to him? What would he think?

OMG! ICON LOVE!

Hades almost skipped on the way to his Queens house, he was in a particularly good mood. Perhaps it was the gift that was tucked under his arm as he navigated the street of Athens that where decorated in full Christmas cheer there was just something contagious in the air that not even the King of the Dead could be immune to. And yes, Hades had thought long and hard on the irony of their kind celebrating the birth of a God he was not sure existed. But some of his human experiences could not be so readily forgotten as others.

He skipped up the steps to Persephone’s flat taking a moment to make sure his clothing was in order before knocking a few times before opening the door himself. Poking his head in smells assaulted his nose and he almost instantly began to drool. Entering the house fully he closed the door behind him relieving himself of his dark coat. “Hello.” He called into the small flat. “Dinner smells divine my love.” He commented crossing towards the kitchen, his face breaking into a deep smile when he spotted his wife “Merry Christmas.” He couldn’t help but add ironically.

[ty! I'm working on a few, since now I have oodles of time! I also have one with them with crowns on, but this one came out clearer, I think... Next installment will be Apollo/Hebe *giggle*]

Persephone tossed the apple as she heard the door, suddenly more diffident than anything else as she heard the knock, heard the door open. She still hadn't the slightest idea how she was going to tell him, what words she would use to convey the news that had left her all but dazed for the entire day. The dog barked, excitedly, behind her, clearly pleased at the god's presence, and eager for attention.

"Hades!" she exclaimed, eyes lit up, practically running up to him, throwing her arms around him. "Merry Christmas!" she said, laughing at the irony, smiling brightly at him. But her laughter was off, a somewhat nervous quality about it, even as she looked at him, almost glowing. Attempting to keep preoccupied, she gestured toward the table, which was set and ready, plates, utensils, napkins, and glasses out. A bottle of wine was ready, and one of pomegranate juice stood next to it, not that she would typically have taken the latter over the former.

"Dinner's ready; I really hope you'll like it. There's ham, turkey, stuffing, cranberry, roasted potatoes. Oh, and apple pie, for dessert. How was your day?" she asked. The Stygian Queen was typically direct, typically said what needed be said without hesitation. And yet, there, at that moment, she hesitated. It was strange -- she was torn between procrastinating, between drawing it out, and just telling him what had happened. The conflict was uncharacteristically evident on her features.

[OH! I'm super excited!]

Hades bent over to pet the enthusiastic dog, even puppy talking with it a little as he pulled a bone out of his pocket and gave it to the furry beast with a last pat before standing fully and pulling is wife into him and planting a kiss on her lips. Pulling away he smiled devilishly down at her before glancing at the table “You have more then out done yourself. I would have been fine with TV dinners and a bottle of wine.” He chuckled. In truth as a bachelor Talik had almost exclusively relied on TV dinners or eating out for nourishment, the way he figured it was such a waste to cook for only one.

As for Hades, who was normally so very conscious of the moods of his wife took little notice of her pause and hesitation. His mind was on a surprise of his own. “I know its not Christmas yet,” he started smoothly “But I couldn’t wait.” He said with a smile handing her a small box wrapped in deep purple and silver paper. “Open it.” He urged with a smile pressing the box into her hand. In the box was a small tin, inside the tin sat nestled between folds of black velvet was a ring made with ever-increasingly rare bois de rose wood and fused with a band of gold. “It reminded me of us.” He said softly as she opened it. He took it out of the box and gently pushed it onto her ring finger of her left hand “I know we are all ready married,” he said looking deeply into her dark eyes, his own intense “But I was hoping you might do me the honor as a mortal as well.” He ran his hand over her hand softly “I love you my queen, more then anything.” He kissed the back of her hand.

[yay! toward the bottom: two icons, in various zooms -- I'm indecisive, obviously! *gigglefit*]

The wine. It would have been an easy transition, an easy way to lead into the conversation, but she hesitated, again, and was completely taken by surprise at what followed.

Purple and silver -- she had grinned when she saw the wrapping paper -- his taste had remained regal as ever, just as he had. Her thoughts were everywhere in the moments that came after, moments she would remember forever. Had she not been already recklessly in love with him, she would have fallen for him all over again.

"And I love you, too, my king," she said, blissfully awed, her eyes searching his intense ones. "I would like nothing more than to marry you again." She looked at the ring, for just a moment, the wood instantly recognizable, the gold coming together with it perfectly. She looked back at him. "It's incredibly beautiful. You really needn't have done that," she said, shaking her head, though the smile on her face was evidence that she was glad he had, glad to have him in her life, glad for each and every moment they spent together.

[OH! I LOVE THEM! I think I like the last two best but the first tree they look like they might put the hurt on you. Lol

Small side note: my x-mas wrapping this year is all deep purple/silve/black XP]

“I’m glad you like it.” Hades smiled at her reaction, he kissed her lips softly “Just a small token of my everlasting affections.” Not able to keep the smirk from his lips “Now, My love, I think we should eat before I take you away and all this food goes to waste.” A small chuckle under his words. Taking her hand he kissed it softly before guiding her to the table “And I would hate for all of your hard work to go to waste because I can be very impatient.” And, well, Hades was surprised that most days he even let her leave his bed. But could you blame him? He didn’t think so.

[I'm glad you like! I found a few pictures I thought worked well together, and couldn't decide! I just -- really like the chars and drama and chemistry!l

Sounds pretty!!!]

She could not help a chuckle -- really, sometimes she thought it was a miracle they got anything done at all. Well, anything that did not involve time between the sheets. Not that she had an objection to it. In fact, she instigated it frequently, and relished in so doing.

"I think we can both be a little impatient, Hades," she said, grinning at him. That was what had led to this, after all, if one were to think on it. At the table, she took their plates, placing healthy helpings of everything on each of them, setting one in front of his chair, and one in front of hers. The scent seemed to become even more powerful.

The dog, as if on cue, made a noise, and she pointed toward the kitchen, where his bowl was. "Kerb..." He ran off to the kitchen, sounds of sloppy canine consumption reaching them. She shook her head, placing her hand on her forehead as she took a seat, though the look on her features was one of amusement.

"Oh. What did you want to drink?" she asked, almost having forgotten about that, the food having grabbed her attention. She reached for their glasses.

[ Caddy + Alyss = major drama and chemistry! I <3 it.
Lol I totally bought it because it reminded me of Hades and Seph XD
AND OMG YOU HAVE TO WATCH S4 OF DEXTER! IT BLEW MY MIND!]

“Well I’m glad it is not only me,” The dark king mused “otherwise I would feel quite bad.” He smirked, sitting at the table as she loaded his plate with food. Hades was a little amazed by the spread, “You have really outdone yourself ‘Seph.” He said in almost aw “This is enough food to feed a small army.” He teased lightly.

Hades shook his head slightly at the dogs antics before he ran off to eat his own food. But her question brought him back and he smiled standing “here let me.” As a way to get her into her seat “You have done so much, the least I can do is get us a glass of wine.” He offered with a smile retrieving the bottle and cork screw and popping it with ease and filled their glasses without question with the warm red elixir before sitting again.

[YES! Me tooooooo! :D
*giggles* that's awesome!
DUDE, SAW IT ONLINE, OMFG! I think my brain exploded a little @ the ending! What a mindscrew!
Also: I thought the previous post was too long, and the drama could be dragged out just a little longer! *giggle* let me know if that's ok!]

Or three. She grinned. "Small army? And here I was hoping to feed the entire Trojan forces," she joked. She was silent for a moment, watching as he poured the wine, looking at the scarlet liquid. There was a pause before she spoke.

"Thank you," she looked at him intently, her next words spoken softly. "But, I can't..."

She had noticed she'd been nauseous in the morning, the past couple of weeks, hadn't thought a thing of it until she took a glance at the calendar earlier in the morning. That was when she'd started to go through the meticulously kept (and scratched out, rescheduled, re-rescheduled) dates of things, gardening competitions, papers assigned and due, presentations, work on her next publication, seminars, to the last time she'd circled the number of the date, the last time she had stricken out the following four days, always the same color, always that red ink.

"Late?" She'd stared at it, eyes wide, brow furrowed, completely awestruck. She shook her head. It was just a fluke. It happened all the time -- probably some new faculty member causing cycle adjustment, the McClintock effect. She'd gone to the convenience store to find answers.

Three tests later, she approached the register, a very confused look on her features, the man behind the counter apparently amused, much to her chagrin.

"That's your third test today, Mama Bear. Your eggo is preggo -- no doubt about it," he said, smirking at her.

"Silencio, old man!" she said, grabbing a large box of single-serving sour apple Jolly Ranchers and the entire leftover stock of Stretch Island Fruit Co. Autumn Apple fruit leathers and placing them on the counter, clearly intending to buy the lot of them.

"So what's the prognosis, Fertile Myrtle? Minus or Plus?"

She examined the last stick, handing him several Euros as she did so, shaking it, disbelief still etched on her features, clearly quite confused.

"That ain't no Etch-a-Sketch. This is one doodle that can't be undid, homeskillet."

She frowned. "Who said I wanted to undo it? I just don't believe it..."

That had been earlier in the day, while last-minute Holiday shoppers were scrambling to acquire the precious final items left on their lists. And now, the moment of truth was before her.

"Something wonderful has happened," she said. She was almost glowing, cheeks faintly flushed, positively alight with life, as lively as she'd ever been.

[ oh my god, it totally fucked up my world, for like 3 days after I was finding like every interview with Michael or John I could to see if they would tell me anything. They wouldn’t but I did come to the conclusion that non Dexter Michael is fluffy and cute]

Hades chuckled “Well, my dear, you might be able to if we ration correctly.” He joked but as Persephone caught his eye, her own intense saying she could not drink the wine confusion fell over the dark king’s face. She loved wine, why couldn’t she have wine? Maybe she wasn’t saying no about the wine… maybe she was saying no about him. But she had just said yes not 3 minuets before. girls where hard.

Now Hades was not stupid, Talik would even said that he had gone to medical school and knew how theses things worked. But when Hades had realized himself thoughts of after school specials seen as a kid and awkward high school heath classes left his head. Because in his world, well new life just was not an option. After spending so long with the dead Hades could not yield new life, something he had hated for so long, because he had seen in his wife’s eyes how much she wanted a child of her own even though she had never said anything to him. It was the one thing he had never been able to give her. And sometimes thousands and thousands of years of leanings could be hard to unlearn.

At least she was smiling, no that was no right, she was down right glowing. So it must be good news. He took her hand in his, still evident on his face that he was trying to figure out the punch line, to no avail, before she revealed it. Finally giving in “What is it?” he urged.

[Shocking stuff! Also was looking at interviews! I saw the one where he recounts his happiest childhood memory, or something to that effect (watching Star Wars twice when it came out) and it made me eeep just a little... alright, a lot ^.~ He's just ADORABLE]

As the Stygian Queen let everyone reach their inevitable conclusions on the matter of the pomegranate seeds that sealed her cyclical fate, so, too, she had never exactly been forthcoming on the matter of her thoughts on progeny. She was the Goddess of Spring, a representation of fertility, of rebirth, of the blooms and the lush greenery, the flourishing above. A fertility goddess that could not do something as simple as have a child? Ah, the Chthonic irony. It was far simpler not to say anything, to let people reach whatever conclusions they might on it -- that she was not the mothering kind; that the Underworld was no place to raise a child; the possibilities were endless. Gods and goddesses are, by their nature, proud creatures, some moreso than others, but all prideful nonetheless. It was easier to purport that than to loan any visible credence to the dreaded suspicion she had -- that she the Spring Goddess, daughter of Zeus, who'd fathered more godlings and demi-gods than could be kept count of, and Demeter, the Earth-Goddess who certainly hadn't had any trouble reproducing herself, could not have children of her own. It was what she'd used to try to rationalize the incident with that silly little nymph whose name she did not speak. The conversation with Hades had never materialized; the thought that he could not yield new life was discarded; she believed it had to be her; it was also easier to attempt to reason, after some time had passed, that perhaps he did not want any.

She looked away for a moment, eyes gazing down anxiously, a most uncharacteristic sort of thing. Persephone was never anxious, never apprehensive, never broke gaze with anyone, over anything. She was excited, yes, but nervous, too, feelings getting the better of her, as they so often did around him. What would he think? What if he hadn't wanted children? She'd never said anything -- the subject had never been spoken of. She tucked her hair back behind her ears, looking back up at him, dark eyes meeting his, a nervous smile twitching at her lips, caught between that and a frown, pulling his hand in hers and placing it over her lower abdomen. Her words were softly spoken.

"Life, Aidoneus."

[Hahahaha win ^.^ hope your Christmas was wonderful! Mine was a little crazy but good ^.^ ]

Again, Hades would like to point out that he is not in fact stupid. But he could not help but let his confusion show plainly on his face. “Melitodes, What are you talking about?” Because for the King of the Dead something’s where just beyond his grasp. But her nervous and anxious demeanor disturbed him. He reached for her hand. “Whatever it is you can tell me.” He said honestly, confusion still clutching him like a vice grip. And he did not like to be confused, he actually hated it. after all what kind of King would he be if he was never on the up and up? a bad one.

[Had to share ;) ty! Hope yours was stellar (and that the craziness wasn't too over the top!)]

Persephone's brow furrowed together at the confusion evident on his features. It was not often that she observed any sort of puzzlement from him. She realized perhaps she needed to be more clear. She reached for the unoccupied chair next to her with her free hand, grabbing a box and placing it on her lap, opening it, and placing its contents before him: a white, silver-trimmed bib, inscribed simply, with silver letters: My dad is killer. She didn't know what had possessed her to purchase such a thing -- she'd found it on the way back from her pregnancy-test escapade -- and well, she'd thought, in a dark way, that it was rather amusing.

"I'm pregnant," she said. "With child. Expecting. Up in the duff. In the spout. In the pudding club," she added, idiom after idiom, in a characteristically British way -- after all, she'd spent over twenty years in the country, and Anne's acquired way of speaking was not something that would be shaken for quite sometime. And it wasn't often that the Chthonic Queen rambled. In fact, she couldn't recall having rambled in such a way in centuries. She stopped speaking, her eyes never leaving his, looking at him carefully.

[WIN! Almost sip tea all over my laptop!]

Hades eyes grew about 3 sizes as he looked at the bib, a finger touching the fabric lightly. Then her words hit him and he looked up sharply. “H-how? A-are you sure?” He stammered slightly but he did not even let her answer before he was out of his chair pulling Persephone into his arms and kissing her fiercely.

When he finally pulled away he looked down at her softly, fingers moving through her hair softly. “Forget it, it doesn’t matter how or why this happened.” He said softly and honestly “All that matters is that it did happen. Oh my Melitodes, I am so glad to finally give you what I know you have yearned for, for what seemed like an eternity.” He kissed her again, a smile spreading over his dark features.

[LOL!]

"Three tests later, yes, I'm sure," she managed, half-mumbling and grinning against his lips as she only reluctantly pulled away from the kiss. And when she looked at him, it was her turn for confusion to be evident all over her features as she realized his last words. He knew?

"Wait. What? I-I never-- Who said-- How did you--" she paused, realizing the questions were coming out in a tangled jumble. She was sure she had never said anything. When had he noticed? She looked at him curiously. "Was it that obvious, Klymenos?" she asked, finally gathering her thoughts after a moment, smirking just slightly.

Hades smiled, he couldn’t help it “No one said my darling; it was only evident in how you cared for others, your sisters and brothers you took under your wing. Perhaps I just know you to well.” He said softly kissing her forehead “My love, it would not be a far guess for me to assume that you desired a child. After all it was the one thing I could never give you.”

He could not stop looking at her, a glimmer of wonder in his eyes as his hand moved slowly over her stomach “It would seem that some good has come from this experiment of my mothers.” A smile spread over his face he looked at his wife deep in the eyes “This is wonderful.”

"Touché," she said. "You do know me too well. Centuries will do that, though, hm?" She hugged him contentedly for a moment. "You've given me more than any woman, immortal or otherwise, could ever ask for, Hades, from the beginning," she said softly. "I thought it was me." She paused, trying to control the sudden wave of emotions that threatened to wash over her, focusing instead on the motion of his hand.

"More than some good, I think. It's a blessing. And we have to think of names for this blessing the Fates have bestowed upon us," she said, her tone becoming giddy. Her hand went over his, her eyes following before she looked back up, into his pair. "What do you think, my king?"

Hades shook his head “It could have never been you,” he said earnestly “because you, my dear, are perfection. And never you spend a moment thinking otherwise” He touched his forehead to hers before saying softly “It was always me; I sealed my fate when my brothers and I chose lots for the realms. Life would never be one of my blessings.”

His eyes followed hers, to their hands interlocked over her belly, and then likewise back into her own dark pair. “Well we have 8-9 month’s right? We have plenty of time to come up with the perfect name.” because in all honestly Hades didn’t have one, and if the kid popped out now he would have suggested it be called Steve. Boy or girl. “Do you have any ideas?”

"Whoa. Thanks, but that's pretty high to live up to there, Hades. I'm ok with being unimpressive. I sleep better," she said. Not that she typically had any trouble snoozing after their usual bed-related activities to begin with, but that was another matter. Her eyes searched his, serious again. "I never knew," she said. "Well, never, until now." And if you asked her, he was still the greatest thing since they put the pocket in pita. She looked at him with absolute adoration.

"Eight, nine, something like that," and statistically, there was a higher probability of it going longer, since first babies had a tendency to be late -- but Persephone preferred not to think too much on that, for the moment. "I have an appointment on the thirtieth, so additional details will be forthcoming," she said. She paused, her brow furrowing as she thought on the naming possibilities. "None at all," she said. "I'm still a little surprised." A little grin played on her lips, however. It was funny, the only inclination she had was that it had to be a feminine-sounding name. "Just nothing... childlike, because that would be terribly irritating," she smirked as she recalled his dark musing the first day they'd met.

Hades shook his head slightly rustling her hair “You could never be unimpressive my dear.” He all but cooed “Never.” He gave her a small smile flatting her hair that he just a second ago mussed “Well, we don’t like being reminded of out short comings. Always better just to push it under the rug or store it in the back of the closet.”

“Oh course.” Hades chuckled “nothing of the sort.” No, Hades would not allow his child to be named anything un-dignified and he was sure Persephone would not allow it either. And a thought crossed his mind causing him to look around the flat for a moment before looking back at his wife. “Do you want to move into my place?” he asked “I mean its bigger, so more room for the baby… and I know I’m not a great decorator, but you have always had an affinity for that sort of thing. I think it would be a good idea.” He began to ramble “But we don’t have to, I mean … I can move in here. If you want.” He said with a smile.

"I can put up a lease sign tomorrow," she replied, grinning broadly, trying not to think of how adorable the Lord of the Dead was when he rambled. "I mean: your place would be perfect! Thanks, Hades," she chuckled. "Really, you're a fine decorator, all things considered," she added. "I'm not going to lie: we're going to have to see about those planters, though. They need a little oomph." A second of silence elapsed before she spoke again.

"But... there is another thing." She nodded toward the dog, who had finished his food and was laying on a rug, half-snoozing, half-staring at the television. He stared at them, almost as if he knew the conversation pertained to him. "I'm a little attached to him. I know, he's a mortal dog, short lifespan, and all that, but I've grown fond of him, and I've always been a dog person."

Hades smiled fully “Well I’m glad, and I think my plants will appreciate the attention.” He added with a chuckle “Apparently even before I knew the truth I needed you in my life.” He chuckled. “I tried to find you in my little garden.” But as her attention turned to the dog so did his and her tone made him quirk an eyebrow looking back at her. “If I remember correctly he was my dog long before you wooed him with your girlish charms.” He teased because it seemed as soon as Persephone moved below the giant 3 headed dog only had eyes for her. Not that the lord of the dead could blame the brute, but sometimes it was hard to compete with him for affection. “I would never think of throwing Kerberos out on the street!” he defended “he can come as well.” He added with a smile before chiding playfully “Silly girl.”

She threw her arms around him, laughing. "And I needed you!" she exclaimed, happily. "There wasn't a night that I didn't dream of you." She even had a Bernini replica in her office. She paused. "But come on, Hades! You know girls are drawn to dogs like flies to honey. I couldn't help myself!" she said, with a giggle. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you used the dog to try to woo me," she joked. She smiled at him, still captivated with him after all those centuries; she still only had eyes for the Dark King. And they were going to have a baby. She couldn't have been happier.

“Not a night pasted for me that you didn’t visit me.” Hades chuckled holding her close “Well if I had known that at the time I think my job would have been a whole hell of a lot easier.” He joked looking down at her fondly, he hand absent mindedly playing with her hair. He loved her so, and had no idea what he would do without her. But for Hades, this moment, right here, was perfection. And he almost didn’t want to leave it.
