[Lately, the only headlines you've been seeing in the newspapers seem to involve the grizzly murders of local orphans:

"CORPSES OF CHILDREN FOUND NEAR THE CIRCUS!", "ANOTHER CHILD FOUND MURDERED; ARE THE POLICE DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN?", "CURFEW SAID TO BE IMPOSED IF MADMAN IS NOT BROUGHT INTO CUSTODY.", "WILL THE MILITARY STEP UP AND PICK UP THE SLACK FROM THE POLICE?"

The reporters and newspapers aren't allowed to go into too much detail regarding the state of the corpses, but people do like to talk. The most popular rumour seems to be that the children aren't just being murdered in a normal manner; it seems that a few of the children had various bones in their body broken and maybe one or two limbs missing. Naturally, people all around Seresia have been taking the news poorly, especially due to the fact neither the police nor the military, even with their combined forces, have been able to deliver the answers they want

Wherever you are, the news has begun airing another report, stating that the newest body of a young orphaned boy has been found just the other night.]

[Remember the circus? Well, it seems today it's especially busy! If you're around it, you may notice there's a lot of police officers that are trying their very best to make sure no civilian will enter the Horror house. It's really noisy, and it appears getting exactly what happens is difficult, but some people swear there was an actual murder inside it! Are you one of those people who believe it's a hoax, or do you think there was a real victim? Regardless of that, it seems that the possible victim is a child-- a orphan apparently-- around ten years old. Beaten until most of his bones broke, it seems the unfortunate child had suffered a lot before finally dying. A tragedy, really.]

I can't believe it... Who the fuck would do something like that?! You, go get me that coffee, right now! And you-- stop trying to enter, you're not allowed to! Get lost! I hope it's the same person, because if there's two sickos like that around... uggh.

[Almost overnight, something seems to have taken over Pleasure Square. Tents and rides everywhere. What exactly is going on? From the center tent, an elegantly dressed man hops up onto a platform, megaphone in hand.]

Ladies and gentlemen, step right up to the greatest show in the universe! The circus has come all the way from Dong Guo for a very special performance right in Seresia! Inside the center tent located directly behind me we have a spectacular show going on ever hour on the hour! I'd hate to give away everything that goes on inside, but if you like knife throwing, dangerous creatures, fire breathers and beautiful ladies, this is a show you can't afford to miss! Until then, maybe I could interest you in a game of ring toss? How about a round at the shooting gallery if you think you've got what it takes to hit all of the targets? A plethora of wonderful prizes awaits you if you can conquer them! There's no sense in bringing your girlfriend here if you aren't going to win her something wonderful! And you slaves there! How about something nice for your master? Want to prove your worth? Just come over and take a swing of the mighty hammer to test your strength! Let's find the strongest slave of them all!

[The man looks around, a devious look in his eye.]

I have a challenge for all of those who think that they can withstand the worst horror in the world. To your right, you will notice a house that appears normal on the outside, but the inside-- Let me tell you, ladies and gentlemen, a murderer wanders through the halls of our Terror Mansion! Countless witnesses have heard the moans from the resident ghosts. Dare you go through-- for a small fee-- the haunted house? Please be warned that those with heart conditions and women who might be pregnant should stay clear away!

And let us not forget about the children! Dear boys and girls, do you enjoy things that go high? Things that go fast? Things that go round and round and upside-down? Then grab your parents or go ask one of our helpful clown helpers to take you to the wondrous rides we have in store for you! Ferris wheels, tea cups, merry-go-rounds, roller coasters, just to name a few! Don't forget to stop by our food station for all of your hunger needs, but be sure not to visit before you go riding!

For our tiniest of children who still can't ride our fearsome rides, why not come to our resident petting zoo and get acquainted with the many animals we have living with us. Feed them, pet them, get your pictures taken with them!

[No matter what channel you're watching, all of them are broadcasting the same news announcement. In a large room in the military base, a crowd of press have gathered, pushing against each other to try and get closest to the podium being displayed on your television screens. Behind the podium is a military bigwig, who looks ready to make some kind of announcement.]

It is with great relief that I am able to make this announcement to you, the people of Seresia, on this day. Two nights ago, thanks to the valiant efforts of one of our own soldiers, the location of the remaining hostages was discovered. With the quick thinking and actions of the army, the hostages were safely removed from their hostile environment and returned to Seresia, where they rightfully belong.

[The man pauses, allowing for chattering among the press members in the room before raising a hand to silence them.]

However, I regret to inform that out of the original thirty hostages that had been taken, only eight were found alive. Efforts are being made now to identify the ones who have perished and we will be contacting the families as soon as any discoveries are made. As for the surviving hostages, they have been sent to the hospital and are under constant supervision to ensure that they make a full recovery from any harsh treatment and lack of necessities they may have suffered through. No questions have been asked to them yet regarding their captors or how they were treated, but we will be sending officials from the military to their hospital rooms later on today or earlier tomorrow morning to gather the necessary information from them. We believe that it is important for our newly returned citizens to gain the rest they need before prodding them for further information.

As for the rebels and their leaders, the whereabouts of them are still unknown, and we would ask that anyone with any information to step forward. Regardless of how small you think the lead may be, you have the word of the army that we will look into each claim with seriousness. While we believe that the army can eradicate the rebel threat, we would hope that our fellow citizens would offer up any information they have in the hopes that those who were murdered see their killers brought to justice.

Unfortunately, the army will be taking no questions from the press at this time, and we thank you again for your constant support through these difficult times. Thank you.

[And just like that, the man exits from the podium, leaving the room of press to chatter amongst themselves. Your television cuts out for a moment, then replays the same exact message.]

((ooc: \8D/ We've reached the conclusion of the hostage situation! Basically, Rufus did something useful for once and found out where the hostages were. After getting taking hostage himself, the army came and busted down the doors, freeing the hostages. Sadly most of the rebels escaped. And yes, this is another post your character wherever they are posts. As for the hostages, yes, all of you (who are all alive minus Ophelia) are in a hospital room, getting special treatment. Enjoy!))

[remember last time, when you were watching tv peacefully, and suddenly REBELS EVERYWHERE? Well, it's happening again. No matter what channel you're looking at, now you'll see a young man and a loli all smiling at you from the screen]

Greetings, citizens of Seresia. I am very sure you all remember me and Moira, therefore, I'll skip the introductions.

Yesterday we received an interesting offer from Seresia's military overseer, and although we are happy to see our recent work of art was proof enough of our seriousness, I must admit I am not very pleased with it. We will need time to consider it carefully, and since this delay will be caused by us, for now we will stop killing our hostages.

As the current leader of Trel's forces, I also have a message for those of my kind who left our home in search of more fortune. As you well know, you are considered traitors. I am very sure that a lot of you regret their choice, after experiencing how cruel and cold Seresians really are, and although our community does not accept cowards who run away from battle, I, and Trel with me, are ready to forgive you and welcome you back. That is, if you accept to fight against Seresia alongside with us, should they refuse to give in to our demands or keep thinking that sending us some sort of stupid diversion is going to work.

[If you're anywhere outside of Pleasure Square, you will notice Cain... actually in normal clothes and not wearing his uniform! It's his day off, yay-- but, he's using his day off to bother every Trelian he can find. If your character is Trelian, feel free to assume he just tapped you on the shoulder or tried to gain your attention somehow. If your character isn't Trelian, well, you can just watch him be a nuisance or assume he bumped into you rudely trying to reach a Trelian. He's cool like that!]

[Early morning. As promised by the threat of the rebel group, ten hostages were killed last night and their bodies left in Pleasure Square. No two victims' wounds looked alike; each manner of death was different, and each was positioned differently. Some were left high, others low. Some discarded as though thrown out like trash, others hoisted up as if their body itself was a flag. All of them had a sign hanging around their necks; each one was worded differently. The first read "water turns to blood". The second, "frogs multiplied in number". The third read "vast swarms of gnats" and the fourth read "vast swarms of flies". The fifth said "disease on the livestock". The sixth, "pestilence across the land". The seventh read "powerful storms of hail" and the eighth read "locusts cover the land". The ninth said "darkness over the land" and finally, the last one said "death of the firstborn".

It was an old Schmuel legend-- the ten plagues. Of course Zephyr knew it well, but he was hardly concerned with bothering to figure out if there was a symbolic reason behind it just yet. In fact, he was still in shock. Given his position, one might think he should be accustomed to such atrocities, but he's never really seen them in person like this before. He fights his wars with words, far away from the stench of those who have perished for the sake of their country.

Ten lives. Ten Seresian lives. By now, Zephyr-- and others involved in the decision-making-- had truly begun to believe it was a bluff. Thirty lives for thirty days, and yet there hadn't been a single one killed. He never expected they'd arrive in batches...

He needed to think. He needed to remain calm and level-headed, but it was impossible. Quickly, the scene became a frenzy. There were cameras, reporters, civilians-- Everyone was trying to see firsthand what was happening to their country. Everyone was demanding an explanation and reassurance that another tragedy like this one would absolutely not occur.

... He wasn't ready for it.]

[If you can make it to the city hall, there's a press conference today, in which the military overseer ~~for lack of better name~~ is answering questions and responding to the demands made by the terrorists. Off to the side ~~and out of camera-view~~ is his slave.]

We have heard the demands issued to us from the rebel organization, and we wish to assure all of our citizens that the utmost urgency and caution is being taken to ensure the safety of our fellow countrymen. At this time, we are unable to disclose any information concerning the situation. However, we are accepting insight from the public should anyone have any leads as to the possible whereabouts of the captives, and we are addressing further details for those whose family members are directly involved.

If you wish to request a personal audience with myself, please speak to Miss Hendric to the left, and she will take down your name and information.

[He gestures to the girl off to the side.]

The lives of our citizens are our top priority, and I guarantee that we will bring each one home safely.

[He steps down from the podium.]

[It sure has been quiet following the explosions that happened that night. People sure must be hoping that was the last time they'd have an attack so close to them. Maybe you're at a friends house, maybe your own house, maybe just somewhere that has a television set. We regret to inform you that the sitcom you are watching is about to be interrupted for a very special announcement. It looks like a normal room you'd see in any house being projected on your tv sets, but instead of the loveable characters you had been hoping to see, there's a Trelian man and a rather short looking girl sitting comfortably in two chairs. It almost seems like they're staring directly at you. There's silence, then one of them begins speaking. Don't touch that dial!]

"It's my pleasure to be able to talk with you all, citizens of Seresia. My name is Ishtar Strahl, leader of Trel's forces.

As you should be aware of, we're not quite dead yet, and I suppose the recent events should be proof enough of that. In order to defeat our common enemy, Trel and Tialye had formed an alliance, and today, me and the leader of Tialye's forces are here to announce our intentions and demands."

"Allow me to introduce myself to the fine citizens of Seresia before we get started. Please, call me Moira. I'm the current leader of Tialye's forces. It really is an honor to be sitting here.

Don't think too badly of us. I think you'll find our demands are rather reasonable At least, we think they are. In fact, all of our.. guests think it would be awfully nice if you could get everything done right away. They assure me you're good when it comes to getting things done."

"By now, you may be aware that a number of people from high-society families had been missing. Rest assured, they were not killed. In fact, they're safe and sound with us right now... for the time being, at least.

We have captured 30 hostages, and we're going to give you 30 days to meet our demands. For each day we'll have to wait, one of those hostages will be killed. As much as it pains us to use such drastic measures, it is necessary, and please understand we are completely serious. The life of those people is in your hands."

"It would be wonderful if we could meet an agreement with no one having to die. As I have said, our demands are rather simple in the grand scheme of things. For starters, I would ask that 30 slaves be released from their masters and sent back to me so they can begin living a normal life.

30.. That seems like a fair number, don't you agree?"

"While Tialye people may be kind enough not to want anyone to die, we people from Trel believe some sacrifices are necessary. In our long story of fighting against Seresia, we have come to encounter many problems with different individuals. It is because of them that we cannot even take into consideration the idea of living peacefully with you, and because of this, we are asking you that those individuals be publicly executed for crimes against the Trelian population. Although we believe most of the soldiers in Seresia's army should be put on this list, we're reasonable enough to just name a few.

Those individuals are: Eloise Celeste Delacroix, Ifan Florian, Alexia Taliesin, Åge Simon, Cain Leander and Avrum Mahesha."

"And that's it! See? It's not so bad. Every action comes with a consequence. It's time Seresia had to face up to theirs."

003: the day after the chaos

[So after the excitement of last night, Jacob managed to snooze for a few hours in the shelter before waking up. Then he woke up and was helpful for a bit, but he still looks really tired.]

What a night...But it looks like the fires are taken care of, at least. Hey, is it alright for us to go home, or should we stay here?

((If you want to encounter Jacob somewhere else besides the shelter, that's fine too. He'll probably wander out to go look for food at some point, so you can come across him then.))

Who: Cain Leander and Ares Leander
Where: The hospital.
When: The night after the explosions.
Ratings: PG..?
Warnings: Umm, general bawwing :(?
Summary: After the events of the previous night have settled down, Cain rushed to the hospital as soon as he could so he could hover over his brother's bed.

Ares should have stayed home that night. Maybe they wouldn't be in this situation now, or at least it would Cain who was there in the hospital bed instead of his brother. It didn't matter that Ares was okay right now, he shouldn't even be in the hospital. He should be at home, telling Cain just what a terrible brother he was for-- for anything, really. For drinking the last of the milk, for saying he was a filthy animal, for screwing up his life.. He didn't care what it was, he just wanted to hear Ares yell at him again. All of those times he had had told Ares out of anger he just wanted him to crawl off and die, he had never really meant it. It was true he had wished for it to happen. After all, his father had said it would just be easier if Ares took care of himself like that, so it was only natural that Cain would want that to happen in order for his father to be happy. It was supposed to be easier to just let his brother die because Cain had been a terrible brother to begin with and they had never had even a decent relationship, and yet when it came time to make that decision, he just couldn't bear the thought of doing it. Leaving his brother there on the ground while he headed off to save the rest of Seresia. He didn't even want to think about it, but that didn't stop the images from coming to him every time he tried to go to sleep. In fact, he hadn't even been able to sleep properly until they had let him know if Ares was okay or not.

He hadn't been allowed to go in an see Ares right away, so he had sat out in the waiting room until they let him enter. Time had crawled by so slow until the nurse had peeked her head out to say that while, yes, it was okay to come in, Ares still hadn't woken up yet and they weren't sure when he would. He didn't care though, he just wanted to be beside his brother again.

And that's where he had been for quite a few hours now. Chair pulled as close as it could get to the bed, head resting on the bed, eyes closed. He wasn't sleeping. He still hadn't been able to sleep. No, instead he was just waiting. Waiting for life to return back to normal.
